San Francisco isn’t the only city offering unique holiday events for animal-lovers. This year, Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is hosting its Paws-giving Fest, where the public can feed a traditional Thanksgiving meal to shelter pets. Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the OKC Animal Shelter, located at 2811 SE 29th St., the celebration aims to give these animals a taste of holiday cheer while waiting for their forever homes.
The shelter animals will be served a special meal including turkey, sweet potatoes, green beans, and beef broth, courtesy of Be Kind Rescue Dogs and vetted by the shelter’s head veterinarian, according to an article published by Oklahoma City’s website, and to top it all off, adoption fees will be waived for this special event it’s a chance not just to feed a pet but perhaps to take one home, too.
Apart from the feast, the Paws-giving Fest includes a low-cost vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a walk with shelter dogs at 11:30 a.m., and local pet-related vendors and food trucks available from noon to 4 p.m. “The holidays are about connection,” Ronnie Schlabs, Superintendent of Oklahoma City Animal Welfare, told Oklahoma City’s website, emphasizing the communal spirit of giving during this time and the importance of attention for animals in need.
