“Hard to kill” is the theme the Oklahoma Sooners entered this week with, as they knew beating the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, would be tough. But, just like every game they have played this season, it was a tough, close game. This one saw the Sooners win, and they are practically punching their ticket into the College Football Playoffs.According to Gabe Ikard of the OU Football Radio Crew, the entire team wore shirts on the plane that read that same message. They let everyone know what the message and theme were after the game.”Hard to f kill,” Kip Lewis said as he was walking on the field.Oklahoma let everyone know they’ve arrived, as did Lewis.

Lewis has a stellar game vs. Alabama
Lewis was the blitzer on defense all night long. It’s not often your linebacker leads the team in sacks with two, but that’s the kind of night it was. With Alabama max protecting all night long, head coach Brent Venables knew he had to keep blitzing Lewis, one of the best in the country at getting through the trenches and shooting the gap. He doesn’t have the sack numbers you’d think, but he did on Saturday.

With just three sacks on the year now, Lewis was responsible for one of the biggest plays of the game — the sack late that put Bama QB Ty Simpson and Alabama behind the sticks when they really needed to get a first down to even stay in the game, knowing they would be going for it on fourth down. This was the same play in which Simpson threw the ball, but his knee was down before releasing it. Lewis was the guy behind that play. He had another sack that was also in a big-time moment, along with two tackles for loss in the run game. Lewis was amazing vs. Alabama, and most importantly, he was a leader.

The Sooners’ mantra this week, ‘hard to kill,’ fits them perfectly. They have been “killed,” so to speak, in terms of them losing games this year. That’s happened twice, but even in those losses, it wasn’t that the other team just blew them out. The score to the Red River Rivalry game against the Texas Longhorns looks bad, but it was actually an extremely close game. Their loss to the Ole Miss Rebels was one they barely lost, and they had several opportunities to win that game.In wins against Bama and the Tennessee Volunteers, the Sooners won, even if they barely won; they still won. This team has a lot of fight, and they play for Venables. This mantra, “hard to kill,” is a testament to the significant cultural changes that have occurred at OU.
