1990 cold case: ancestral DNA identifies skeletal remains as missing Oklahoma City woman

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (KOKH) — The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office identified skeletal remains from a 1990 cold case by using ancestral DNA with help from the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office and Othram DNA Testing Lab.

An investigation was conducted in 1990 after skeletal remains were found along a creek about 2 miles east of US 281 Highway on OK66 (Cherokee Truck Stop). Evidence indicated the remains were from a female victim and that foul play was possibly involved.

Over the years, multiple leads were followed and ruled out. In 2024, sheriff’s office investigators attended a training conference on Ancestral DNA use for Cold Case Investigations, and requested Othram Inc. to help provide a potential ancestral DNA profile…
