Proposed sales tax could prevent property tax spike for new Oklahoma County Jail

OKLAHOMA CITY – The cost of Oklahoma County’s new jail has soared to $835 million, far exceeding the $260 million voters approved in 2022, prompting county officials to consider a sales tax to close the funding gap and avoid a federal takeover.
