Academic freedom call: OU group demands transparency in graduate assistant’s suspension

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (KOKH) — The University of Oklahoma Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (OU-AAUP) is calling for OU to publicly support academic freedom.

OU-AAUP wants the university to publicly disclose all facts regarding a graduate assistant being placed on administrative leave after a student claimed religious discrimination, including the syllabus, assignment rubric, and other requirements or expectations for the assignment.

The group said in a statement, “Disturbingly, OU has not made a public statement stating that it vigorously defends instructors, including transgender instructors, from harassment, discrimination, and even reported death threats.”…
