We’re hardly into December and babies are still popping up at the Oklahoma City Zoo. So far this year, they’ve already seen at least eight births at the OKC Zoo. And, as of November 2025, they are celebrating another new arrival.
Just after Thanksgiving, on November 29, 2025, they welcomed Lyra, a new female zebra plains foal. Lyra weighed an astonishing 97 pounds at birth and has already met some important milestones for her age.

Lyra, named after the second century astronomer, Ptolemy, is already strong enough to be integrated with her zebra family at the zoo. She’s hard to miss among the dazzle of plains zebras in the Expedition Africa exhibit.
