Oklahoma City Zoo celebrates birth of female zebra foal

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden announced on Monday the birth of a female Plains zebra foal named Lyra.

Lyra, born to mother Nebula and father Mars, was born on Saturday, November 29, in Expedition Africa, weighing 97 pounds at birth.

She joins her mother and father, along with the rest of her family, sister Aurora, and relatives Calypso and Atlas in the Plains zebra habitat along the Predator pass in Expedition Africa.

“Eventually, the zebra herd will merge with the wildebeest herd to showcase their symbiotic relationship,” said OKC Zoo’s Curator of Hoofstock, Bill Smith. “This will represent the great herd migrations seen on the savannas in Africa.”…
