Norman mother details 15 years on OKDHS subsidies amid cuts

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — Melissa McIntyre, a mom of two boys, spoke to News 4 about her experience with subsidies from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and how they’ve helped shape her children’s lives.

Many families and child care providers across the state are reeling after OKDHS announced the cancellation of new applications for working families needing child care for children ages six and up.

A COVID-era add-on has been suspended, and current families on subsidies will not be renewed on their renewal date.

McIntyre said, “How are we supposed to try? How are we supposed to prosper or go forward or let our children have a comfortable life?”
