Oklahoma City locals are bracing themselves for a gusty end to the weekend, as the National Weather Service in Norman has extended a Wind Advisory across central and western parts of the state, as well as northern Texas. National Weather Service, effective from 8 AM to 7 PM CST Sunday, forecasts northwest winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph, with potential gusts up to 50 mph.
The National Weather Service warning anticipates that such strong winds are likely to disrupt more than just outdoor plans, “Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result,” the advisory cautions. The National Weather Service advises caution for high profile vehicles and those driving on the road during the advisory period. Despite the disruptive winds, the forecast also promises mostly sunny skies with a daytime temperature decrease to about 42 degrees by 5 PM.
As the wild wind sets in, residents should prepare for a steep temperature drop. Following the sunny but blustery Sunday, the mercury is set to dip to around 28 degrees overnight.
