New renderings show design for proposed Norman homeless shelter

NORMAN, Okla. – Norman CityCouncil members are moving forward with plans for a nearly $8 million homeless shelter designed to operate as a 24-hour facility.

During a city council study session held Tuesday, officials reviewed renderings and design plans for the proposed City Care Homeless Facility.

The proposed facility includes two buildings. One building would house separate men’s and women’s dormitories, complete with restrooms, storage areas and kennels for pets. A second building would be dedicated to family housing while also offering a dedicated space for rest and recovery.

In November, the city approved the land purchase for the shelter, marking a major step toward construction. The purchase was approved for roughly three acres off Reed Avenue, just south of Food and Shelter Incorporated. This existing nonprofit already provides food and housing services in the area.
