In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the City of Oklahoma City has announced a series of closures and service changes affecting city offices and utilities for Monday, January 19. According to officials mentioned on the City of Oklahoma page, regular trash and recycling pick-up will be postponed until Wednesday, January 21, while bulky waste collection will remain unaffected by the holiday schedule.
Residents looking to interact with various city departments will need to plan ahead as multiple city facilities, including City offices, Animal Welfare, the Municipal Court, and the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, will be closed. However, outdoor parks will still welcome visitors from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., providing an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King amidst nature. Martin Park Nature Center’s outdoor grounds will be accessible as well, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. On this day of remembrance, transit systems will also adjust to quickly accommodate the public, with free fares being offered for OKC buses, OKC Streetcar, RAPID, and OKC PLUS Zone 1 & 1a ADA Paratransit, as per the city’s official website.
The OKC Parks recreation centers, along with community centers, gyms, senior centers, and family aquatic centers, will not open their doors on the holiday.
