The same Porter Moser problem is exhausting Oklahoma fans once again

Mid-January usually brings colder weather to Oklahoma, and also a hotter seat for OU men’s basketball coach Porter Moser.

The Sooners on Tuesday night on their homecourt were embarrassed by No. 19 Florida 96-79, and although the Gators have struggled this season, the defending national champions looked good enough to win another ring when going up against OU. But that seems to be the trend for Moser’s teams in his five seasons leading the Sooners: make conference teams look like the Oklahoma City Thunder after a successful nonconference schedule.

Moser back on hot seat with Sooners on SEC losing streak

Tuesday’s loss to Florida officially put the Sooners on an SEC losing streak with their third loss in a row. They lost two road games last week to Mississippi State and Texas A&M. After beating Ole Miss 86-70 in its SEC opener at home, OU has started conference play 1-3 and is second-to-last in the standings, above only LSU, which hasn’t won an SEC game, but still has more overall wins than OU. With No. 18 Alabama next on Saturday, 1-4 again seems likely for the Sooners.

The Sooners were also 1-4 last season in their first year in the SEC after going 13-0 in nonconference play, then started conference play with four straight losses. Between the SEC and Big 12, an OU team has never had a winning conference record under Moser…
