Sooners keep finding new ways to make themselves look bad after a situation that could lead to a coaching change down the road

The Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball used to be fun to watch. Now, the women’s team is clearly more entertaining, and has been for some time.OU men’s basketball coach Porter Moser may now be on the hot seat, with the Sooners dropping six straight games in a steadily worsening slump. The program has struggled for some time, but the manner of recent losses has been especially unacceptable. Most recently, their performance in Columbia, Missouri, highlighted these ongoing problems.

Sooners lose in embarrassing fashion to Missouri

Missouri isn’t a strong basketball program. Although it’s technically a rivalry, Missouri simply wanted it more. Oklahoma looked to seal the win several times, responding well to Missouri’s efforts. But late in the second half, Moser’s drawn-up play to extend the lead failed. The ball moved without creating a real scoring opportunity.Missouri then went down and pulled a nearly half-court shot to tie the game at the buzzer, and sent it to overtime. The worst part about that was that it was Pierce’s first made shot of the game, and only as he finished 1-6 for Missouri. Then, in overtime, OU crumbled even more. With so many opportunities to just take over the game and close it out, they couldn’t really get it done.Guard Xzayvier Brown goes down the court with just seconds left and hits a circus shot to take the lead. With three seconds left, OU gives up a contested three-point shot to Missouri at the buzzer, which won the Tigers the game. It’s an insanely tough way to go out.

They’ve now lost six in a row, all to struggling teams, starting with the South Carolina Gamecocks, followed by the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and most recently Missouri. Their last win came before this losing streak began, over the Ole Miss Rebels, who are also a bad team but currently better positioned in the conference standings. The Rebels are 3-4 in SEC play, where OU is 1-6.There was a similar moment to this one last season under Moser. They had lost to Kentucky, with former player Otega Oweh scoring 27 in Norman. Of course, there’s the game they lost to the LSU Tigers at home, too. Those moments gave fans the feeling that Moser would soon be fired. However, he turned it around and got his team to the tournament, really on the back of Jeremiah Fears.Without a difference-maker to rescue the Sooners, urgent changes are now necessary to turn the program around…
