SunJun July wasn’t the biggest fan of overnight shifts at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City. He was saving up for dental school, though, and wanted to be considerate of another security guard’s schedule. He was also something of a workaholic anyway, his family said.
A former wrestler and honor student in Checotah, July already had been working security at the downtown OKC hotel for about a year as the holidays wound down. He was accustomed to dealing with drunken people at the hotel, but he did not have a reputation for violence. July was not a confrontational person, seeing his job as mainly keeping people out of the building who weren’t supposed to be there.
