Sounding the alarm over New World screwworms

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Director of OSU’s Center for Rural Veterinary Medicine, and a Beef Cattle Extension Specialist Doctor Rosslyn Biggs, joined us in the KFOR studio on Wednesday to talk about the New World screwworm flies.

The Governor of Texas issued a disaster declaration for an insect found within 70 miles of Laredo, Texas.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller says, “It’s a real nasty infection. I can’t describing it would almost gross you out. It’s about as bad as anything you can imagine. Being eaten alive by maggots is what it is.”…
