OGE and Tinker Air Force Base celebrate new power generation

Nearly 100 megawatts of new, fast‑responding power are now strengthening Oklahoma’s grid. Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E), Tinker Air Force Base leaders, and elected officials Thursday marked the addition of two new power generation units that bolster system reliability for customers and enhance energy resilience for the base in the event of a national security event.

“At OG&E, we’re committed to delivering reliable and secure power our customers can depend on —on time and on budget—reflecting our relentless commitment to affordability,” said Sean Trauschke, chairman, president and chief executive officer at OG&E. “These two new units add essential generating capacity to our system, meet growing energy needs, and reinforce Tinker’s ability to carry out its mission, supporting both regional energy resilience and our nation’s security.”

The two new natural gas-fired combustion turbine units replace two 55-year-old units and are strategically located near OG&E’s largest energy demand center in the Oklahoma City metro area. The units provide a combined 96 megawatts (MW) of generation capacity, enough electricity for 34,000 homes.
