Just after midnight Wednesday, what should have been a quiet stretch near downtown Oklahoma City turned into a crime scene when a man was stabbed in the neck in an alley near Northwest 5th Street and Walker Avenue. A security guard called police after finding the victim, who officers say suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be OK.
The Oklahoma City Police Department responded shortly after the call came in. Investigators say a security guard discovered the wounded man in the alley, and witnesses later described seeing a person carrying a skateboard near Classen Boulevard, as reported by KOCO. Officers have not released a suspect’s name and have not made an arrest.
Police ask for tips
Authorities say the investigation is active and are urging anyone who was downtown around midnight to check their doorbell or business cameras and share any footage with detectives. The City of Oklahoma City lists Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300 and provides online reporting tools for submitting tips to the department, according to the City of Oklahoma City police page.
Why the location matters
Northwest 5th and Walker is a busy transit corridor and has been the scene of other violent incidents in recent years, which helps explain why officers prioritize downtown canvasses after overnight attacks. Earlier local coverage of downtown stabbings is collated by outlets including earlier downtown stabbing reports.
What investigators say
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and witness accounts but have not released a possible motive. They say the case remains open while they look for more leads. As reported by KOCO, the suspect was described only as a man carrying a skateboard near Classen Boulevard…
