After a loaded firearm was discovered on school property, a student at Norman North High School was placed under arrest

A 16-year-old male student from Norman North High School was taken into custody on Monday after a loaded firearm was found on school grounds. The student was arrested “on a complaint of possession of a firearm on school property” and is being transported to a juvenile detention facility.

Details of the Incident

According to Sarah Schettler, public information officer for the Norman Police Department, the investigation began after a report was made that the student had made a verbal threat toward another student. This prompted an investigation by both school administrators and law enforcement.

Discovery of Firearm

The student was brought to the school office and searched, which led to the discovery of a loaded firearm. Following the discovery, the student was taken into custody and will not return to school.

Response from Norman Public Schools

Norman Public Schools communications coordinator, Jaron Spor, confirmed that internal disciplinary actions would be taken in accordance with the district’s Student Code of Conduct. Criminal charges are pending, based on the outcome of the law enforcement investigation.
