Pre-dawn Apartment Inferno Chars Two Units Off SE 44th Near Sunnylane

An early Wednesday fire tore through two apartments at a southeast Oklahoma City complex before crews were able to knock it down, authorities said. The blaze broke out shortly before 12:45 a.m. on the east side of the building, triggering a multi-unit response from city firefighters. Crews swept through units after a report that a man’s daughter might be inside, but no one was found, and investigators have opened a case to determine what sparked the flames.

According to KOCO, firefighters responded to a complex near Southeast 44th Street and South Sunnylane Road and contained the fire to two units on the east side of the property. Crews searched apartments and common areas following the missing-person report, but officials said they did not locate anyone inside and were unsure where the daughter might be. The station reported that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Oklahoma City Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit typically leads these probes, handling interviews, sifting through debris and documenting scenes to pin down a fire’s origin and cause, according to the City of Oklahoma City.
