Retired KC-135 pulled from 309 AMARG

On Apr. 2, 2026 a retired Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker tanker aircraft has been transferred by the US Air Force from long-term storage at Davis–Monthan Air Force Base (AFB) (DMA), Tucson to Tinker (AFB) (TIK), Oklahoma City, in a move that aims at returning the aircraft to operational service. As reported by Flight Global, two KC-135 tankers were involved in the relocation departing the “Boneyard” at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG).

Tinker AFB hosts the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, a facility that provides depot-level maintenance and upgrades for multiple USAF platforms, including the KC-135 fleet.

KC-135 Stratotankers with serial numbers 58-0011 and 58-0018 were involved in the transfer. One unit was already in active service (58-0018) while the other (58-0011) was retired last year, highlighting a coordinated maintenance or regeneration effort for the latter.
