Omaha judge orders law enforcement to monitor mental health treatment plan

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – For the first time, an Omaha district court judge has ordered law enforcement to get involved in a mental health treatment plan.

It’s an issue that may now end up before the Nebraska Supreme Court.

Two years ago, Noemi Guzman was arrested for setting her father’s house on fire and terrorizing and threatening a south Omaha priest with a knife. She was found not responsible by reason of insanity, so an Omaha judge developed a treatment plan with medication and therapy to help her manage her schizophrenia so she wasn’t a danger to herself and others.
