(Omaha) — This month’s Rural Mainstreet Index report indicates some slight improvement in the rural economy.
Creighton University’s survey of bank CEOs in a 10-state region–including Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri–show increased index numbers from 45.7 in May to 52.6–its highest level since July, 2023. Speaking on KMA’s “Morning Line” program Monday morning, Creighton University Economics Professor Dr. Ernie Goss cites improvement in the Iran War situation–including possible peace talks–as one reason for the index’s bounce. Another factor involves improved trade conditions.
“Some of it is just due to improved trade numbers,” said Goss. “We’re seeing trade looking somewhat better. For example, some of the expansions in China, we’re seeing some growth there, but still, not back to our 2024 lows on our trade with China.”…
