Omaha twins with rare genetic disorder use ice cream fundraiser to spread awareness

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A pair of 10-year-old twins with a rare genetic disorder are using an ice cream fundraiser to raise awareness and research funding for Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.

Owen and Olivia Boring both have Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a hereditary disease that causes lung disease in adults and liver disease at any age. The condition currently has no cure.

About the diagnosis

Their mother, Chelsea Boring, said the family first learned about the condition about 10 years ago after her son began experiencing liver symptoms shortly after birth.
