OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha’s 911 system was overwhelmed with fireworks-related calls on the Fourth of July, with more than 500 calls coming in during a single hour after 11 p.m. Saturday, according to Omaha City Councilman Ron Hug.
Hug said the volume left some callers unable to get through. Operators later called back approximately 180 people who were not answered on the first attempt.

Hug said this year’s fireworks complaints were unlike any he had previously received.
