OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) — Douglas County commissioners are expected to vote next week on whether to continue their contract with Duet, an agency that provides services to people with developmental disabilities, after the organization presented financial and operational reforms Tuesday.
Background on the contract dispute
In March, the Douglas County Board gave Duet an ultimatum: address its financial and operational issues or face contract termination. Duet returned to the board Tuesday to present the steps it has taken in response.
Changes include bringing in an outside company to review Duet’s finances, reducing staff, liquidating assets and selling several properties for nearly $5 million to help pay down debts.
“Luckily we were able to find a buyer who is committed to keeping them as residential group homes,” Duet Agency Director Tiffany Milone said. “So from a service provision perspective, nothing really changed for the people we support or the staff that is supporting them.”
Vote expected next week
