COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — A 16-year-old Council Bluffs boy has been named a Carnegie Hero after officials said he helped stop an attack on his father outside their home.
According to the report, Erik Opal heard his father, Chad Opal, screaming outside on Dec. 23, 2025, as he struggled with a man who was attacking him.
Erik called 911, ran outside and tackled the man, allowing his injured father to get away, the report said. Erik then helped hold the man until police arrived…
