Douglas County Sheriff, corrections department dispute alleged error in bond amount for homicide suspect

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A dispute has emerged between the Douglas County sheriff and the county Department of Corrections over an alleged error in the bond amount set for a suspect in a misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide case.

The alleged error occurred while the suspect, Jose Ortega Romero, was held at the Douglas County Jail Sunday night.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says Romero was set to be released the night of the crash after posting 10% of a $7,500 bond before U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him…
