Omaha voters to decide on $155 million bond for joint police and fire building

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha’s first responders want to turn an empty lot into a joint building for fire and police, but they need voters to approve the funding first. Metro voters will decide on the bond issue next Tuesday.

The presidents of the unions for Omaha Police and Omaha Fire made a final pitch to voters to approve the bond measure. The proposal includes $155 million in bonding authority, which will not require a tax levy increase.

What the building would include

The building is slated for near 75th and Cass streets, near the Crossroads development. It would include upgrades such as a larger forensic lab and emergency services support.

The joint building would house both police and fire personnel. It would replace the Omaha Police station downtown. It would not replace Omaha Fire’s downtown station.
