Grand Island Man Faces Sentencing After Dog Attack Sends Victim to Hospital

Negligent Dog Owner Convicted on Multiple Misdemeanor Charges

A Grand Island man will face the consequences of his negligence in March, following a vicious dog attack that left a victim hospitalized last spring. According to KSNB Local4, Jose Gallardo, was convicted on Monday of two charges related to the attack: owning a dangerous dog that inflicted serious injury on a human and allowing a dangerous dog to roam off-leash.

The harrowing incident occurred on May 13th, when two dogs under Gallardo’s care attacked three people near Howard Court and State Street. One victim suffered severe injuries and required treatment at an Omaha hospital.

Alarmingly, Animal Control had previously labeled the dogs as potentially dangerous after they injured another dog in a separate incident. The dogs have since been euthanized.

Gallardo’s legal troubles extend beyond the dog attack.

The 35-year-old was also convicted of second-offense drunk driving in an unrelated case, as well as third-degree assault and two counts of negligent child abuse in a third case.
