The Bellevue Police Department K-9 unit in Nebraska received a helping hand from a young boy and aspiring future employee, Parker Makousky. Along with a friend, Makousky raised $401 for the K-9 unit by selling candy bars at Leonard Lawrence Elementary School.
This initiative was part of the “Genius Hour” program at the school, which allows sixth-grade students to pursue projects they are passionate about.
“I just like K-9 police dogs because I feel like they’re smart, and I just think that I admire what their job is,” Makousky told sister station KETV on Thursday. “Even seeing a police car driving by, I always just think that might be me one day.“
Makousky’s project involved selling candy bars to raise funds for the K-9 unit, and they were able to achieve their goal in just two weeks.
“Me and my friend Ryan, we made posters and then we put them up around the school,” Makousky said. “And then we got a table, and then we went to the store and bought a lot of candy bars, like full-sized ones, and then some Airheads and Skittles. And then we sold them in the front of the school for two weeks.”
