COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) – Right now, public schools in Iowa cannot start earlier than Aug. 23. The Council Bluffs Community School District says that isn’t always ideal. “Without change, next year, our earliest date-or first day of school-would be a Friday,” superintendent Dr. Vickie Murillo said. “Starting school on Friday is a little untraditional, so we’d love to have that flexibility. We’d love to be able to look at our start date and plan out ahead.”
