STANTON COUNTY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Council Bluffs man was hospitalized after a one-vehicle crash leaving his vehicle wedged in trees.
The crash happened Sunday around 5:15 p.m. on Highway 32 about four miles east of the Highway 81 junction, according to a Stanton County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Authorities said Dillion Palen, 26, was driving a car east when it left the road at a high speed and entered into the north ditch. The car then hit an embankment and became airborne before striking several trees and landed being supported by a tree.
Authorities said Palen was found and helped from the wreckage by a passerby, and then taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Officers were notified around 9:45 p.m. that Palen was transported to UNMC in Omaha by medical helicopter.
Authorities said seatbelts were in use and multiple airbags deployed are credited with the saving of Palen’s life.
Officers at the scene said the vehicle was destroyed in the crash and took extra effort from a larger wrecker to remove it from being wedged against the trees.
