An Omaha resident, Tristan Scorpio, was fined $50 for violating city codes by dumping tires and other debris on his property, but neighbors say the penalty is inadequate, and the mess remains uncleaned.
Scorpio claims he was planning to use the tires to build housing for disabled veterans, but neighbors like Jeremy Hamilton say the property resembles a landfill and poses health and safety hazards.
“Clean your mess up,” Hamilton expressed his frustration to WOWT. “You can’t use residential land for a landfill. But this guy gets to. It’s just really disappointing.”
Police and city inspectors cited Scorpio for a weeds and litter violation. He claims he informed city officials of his plans and they didn’t object to the tire dumping, but the city’s chief field inspector disputed this and presented evidence showing the mess persists.
Neighbors expressed frustration with the $50 fine, which did not include an order for cleanup. They worry about rodents, mosquitos, and fire dangers posed by the debris.
