(Shenandoah-Glenwood) — A local candy and sweets store is making its way to Shenandoah later this year. Based in Glenwood with a second shop in Council Bluffs, Sugar Makery recently announced plans to open a new location in Shenandoah off U.S. Highway 59 next to the new Community First Credit Union location in March. Alexis McCue owns and operates Sugar Makery along with her husband, Malcom. While they opened the Glenwood location in 2017, McCue says the inspiration for the store dates back to 2012, when her father, John Wright, who had taken up candy making as a hobby, passed away. After spending eight days with him in hospice and sending a batch of candy to his nurses three months after his passing, McCue says she had never felt more inspired.
