Omaha Man Sentenced to Prison for Second-Degree Murder in Death of 18-Year-Old

An Omaha man, Justyn Wagner, faced sentencing in Douglas County court for his role in the tragic death of 18-year-old KorVanta Hill. Wagner, who pled no contest to second-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, received a significant prison term for his actions.

Wagner’s sentencing, delivered on Tuesday, marked the culmination of legal proceedings stemming from the October 2021 incident. The court handed down a sentence of 70 to 80 years for the murder charge, in addition to 10 to 20 years for possession of a firearm and 10 to 15 years for using a weapon to commit a felony. These sentences are to be served consecutively, reflecting the gravity of the offenses committed.

The case revolved around the tragic circumstances of Hill’s death near 39th and Pratt streets. Hill, innocently walking with his father to purchase a soda, became the unintended victim of violence initiated by Wagner and another individual, Elijah Robinson. Prosecutors revealed that Wagner and Robinson, reportedly seeking rival gang members to target, resorted to senseless violence when they couldn’t locate their intended victims.
