OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha’s Black Police Officers Association (BPOA) and the Kappa Alpha Si fraternity joined forces to host a significant event aimed at empowering local youth: the Teen Summit. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this summit brought together high school students to delve into crucial topics such as college applications and financial literacy.
The BPOA, expressing enthusiasm for the event’s impact, highlighted the enduring commitment of many participants, some of whom have been attending since their freshman year. Ken Fox, co-founder of the BPOA, emphasized the program’s ability to cultivate a supportive community, with graduates returning to volunteer and share their success stories.
Saturday’s attendees also had the opportunity to learn about scholarship opportunities provided by organizations such as the Buffett Scholarship Foundation and the Goodrich Foundation, further enriching their understanding of higher education possibilities.
This collaborative effort underscores a dedicated initiative within the Omaha community to uplift and empower its youth, providing them with essential resources and guidance for their academic and professional journeys. Through events like the Teen Summit, local organizations continue to demonstrate their commitment to fostering educational opportunities and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
