OMAHA — The latest batch of votes counted in Douglas County narrowly extended the lead for one legislative candidate in a northeast Omaha race.

But the final outcome for that race and two others, in Grand Island and Bellevue, remained too close to call Friday evening, with final provisional ballots set to be counted next week or beyond. Republicans have maintained at least 33 seats in the Legislature , the number of votes often needed for contentious legislation to end debate and advance proposals.

In Omaha’s District 13, Ashlei Spivey, a Democrat, now leads nonpartisan Nick Batter by 65 votes . The difference is within 1%, which could lead to an automatic recount depending on those final ballots.
