On November 5, 2018, the historic Velosco V. Leonard House at 323 North 6th Street in Plattsmouth, Nebraska (Cass County) was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was added to the National Register when the George E. Dovey House of Plattsmouth was added.
The Leonard House was constructed in 1883 and originally belonged to Velosco V. Leonard, a photographer who had a studio that’s listed in the Plattsmouth Main Street Historic District. The house is also referred to as the W. Green Manley House.
The architectural style of this home is Late Victorian: Italianate. The house has a brick foundation and the porch and trim are wood. The house was designed by Heinrich Ernst Wagner (1849-1887).
Construction of the Leonard House began in the spring of 1883. The house is north of downtown in a residential neighborhood.
Velosco V. Leonard was born in Susquehana County, Pennsylvania on September 12, 1840. After the Civil War began, Leonard signed up with the Fiftieth Pennsylvania Infantry. While serving under Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant in 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness, Leonard was captured and held by Southern forces as a prisoner at the Andersonville prison in Georgia until the war ended.
