Omaha woman convicted in 2023 fatal crash released on probation again, family of victim frustrated

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An Omaha woman charged with violating her parole after being sentenced to three years in prison for motor vehicle homicide walked out of Douglas County District Court on Thursday afternoon.

Lorena Lara-Diaz, 40, was convicted in the death of Gary Mangiameli in 2023 when she hit the motorcycle he was driving near 26th and L Street in Omaha.

Once again, the Mangiameli was in a courtroom, hoping justice turns in their favor. So far, they feel the court doesn’t realize they’ve lost a son, a father, and a friend.

“Something unimaginable , honestly,” said Gunner Cox, a family member of Mangiameli. “Nothing that we ever thought we would have to go through.”…
