JEWELL COUNTY — What began as a routine traffic stop turned into something much more meaningful in eastern Jewell County Wednesday morning.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Trooper Mai was on patrol when a vehicle approached his patrol car at 92 mph in a 65-mph zone. As Trooper Mai turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, he noticed it was crossing the centerline and initially failed to yield to emergency lights—causing concern.
