OMAHA–(KFOR May 6)–At one point, it was the costliest tornado in U.S. history in terms of property damage, that ripped through Omaha 50 years ago Tuesday that left a deep wound.
Retired Omaha radio news anchor and reporter Bill Jensen covered the May 6, 1975 Omaha tornado and remembers it well. He didn’t get a glimpse up close, until he got off the air at 8pm that night and headed for home. Jensen didn’t get a full close up until he headed westbound on Dodge Street near UNO’s campus and came over the hill to see the devastation in the area toward 72nd Street.
“I will always remember there was a car that was perched up on a traffic signal pole at 72nd and Cass,” Jensen told KFOR News on Monday. “It was just incredible.”…
