Regional Water: temporary connection to Council Bluffs system successful

(Avoca) — Regional Water Rural Water Association officials say they have completed a temporary connection to supplement their water system.

In a release Thursday afternoon, Regional Water says the connection to the Council Bluffs water system was successful Wednesday, with staff working alongside DGR Engineering to properly dose the water that is currently being sent to “Tower 5” in the southwest part of the company’s distribution system. Officials say they are working to provide water to other portions of the system, but note it will take some time, as they have to closely monitor chlorine residuals moving through the distribution system. Plans for a more permanent booster station and connection are expected to be complete by October.

In the meantime, Regional Water officials say customers served by the system’s Avoca Treatment Plant remain in “Level Red” water use restrictions. This includes all customers and the communities of Avoca, Brayton, Exira, Kirkman, Westphalia, Earling, Panama, Portsmouth, Persia, and Tennent.
