OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha Police officers’ union called out Omaha Sen. Terrell McKinney on social media Wednesday, accusing the him of stoking hostility toward officers at multiple shooting scenes over the weekend.
He responded about 90 minutes later. Both posts, widely shared, sparked much debate online — though Omaha Police told First Alert 6 that Sen. McKinney was not at any crime scene over the weekend. OPD said the department considered the incident referenced in the OPOA post a separate matter, and that officers looked into related allegations of criminal activity made against the senator and found them to be untrue.
“While our officers were performing CPR, applying tourniquets, and running toward gunfire, Nebraska State Senator Terrell McKinney, who represents this district, was flipping them off,” the Omaha Police Officers Association said in a Wednesday morning Facebook post. “While officers were working to calm crowds and keep families safe during Native Omaha Days, Senator McKinney was inciting anger and shouting ‘F*** the police.’ While officers were being thanked by residents who simply wanted to enjoy a safe, family-friendly event, Senator McKinney was actively urging people to disobey them.”…
