Drug administration urges conversations with kids as new school year begins

OMAHA, Neb. (KCAU) — The Omaha Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is calling on parents and guardians to have some important discussions with their kids as the new school year gets underway in communities across Siouxland.

Of course, every parent hopes their child never runs into drugs at school or anywhere else. But the DEA warns, drug dealers have started targeting kids on social media. Combine that with the ongoing incidence of counterfeit medications designed to look like prescription drugs, but actually containing deadly amounts of fentanyl, and it’s easy to see why these conversations are so necessary.

Rafael Mattei, the Acting Special Agent in Charge at the Omaha Division of the DEA said in a press release, “We know that a lot of families sit down at the start of a new school year to go over things like dealing with bullies, taking precautions when walking home and staying organized with classes. We want families to engage on the tough topics including the use of social media for buying and selling drugs.”…
