OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – According to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) and the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC), numerous large wildfires are causing unhealthy air quality for the northwestern United States and Canada.
A decently strong jet stream flowing from the northwest will push the smoke towards the Midwest including the metro late Wednesday night into Thursday. This will impact the skyline and air quality through Thursday afternoon.
Expect the Air Quality Index (AQI) to be in the Moderate (yellow category) to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (orange category). Sensitive groups include individuals with heart or lung conditions, older adults, children, pregnant women, and outdoor workers. Limit your time outside if you can.
An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the Department of Health and Human Services from 6 PM Wednesday night through 11 AM Thursday morning…
