First-Year instructors at UNO share rheir vision for the year ahead

With the start of a new school year comes new students, but this year at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, there are also many first-year professors making a debut. Two of those instructors, Angie Benda and Dr. Moustafa Ali, agreed to share their perspectives regarding this new experience.

Teaching general chemistry and biochemistry this year is Dr. Ali, who knew as early as primary school that he loved the STEM disciplines. While in middle school, he noticed his teacher had not balanced an equation correctly. Ever since, he started to think about chemistry differently. Realizing that the subject helps him connect to many other majors, he decided to go down the road of being a chemist.

Dr. Ali has a hands-on and visual teaching style. He wants to implement activities inside the classroom as he believes it is helpful for clarification. Explaining chemistry concepts in relatable terms is essential to comprehension…
