Omaha’s Creighton University receives $100 million from Heider family

Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, has announced a $100 million gift from the Charles and Mary Heider Family Foundation as part of a campaign to raise $300 million for athletics and student recreation.

The lead gift in the university’s donor-funded Fly Together initiative will help reshape a 12-block recreational and athletic corridor on the east side of the Creighton campus comprising 11 new or upgraded facilities and outdoor spaces covering approximately 700,000 square feet, including a new student fitness center and enhanced offerings for intramural and club sports. An additional $105 million already has been raised from other donors, Athletic Business reports.

The fundraising and facilities expansion coincides with a private $650 million project adjacent to the campus that will include an urban park; hotel, retail, restaurant, entertainment, and office space; and student housing.
