I think, maybe, we saw a better version of Marquette women’s soccer on Saturday than we saw in their 2-2 draw with Butler last weekend? It goes in the record book as the same result — a draw, this time at 1-1 and with Creighton — but that does keep Marquette undefeated in Big East play…. but also winless as well.
The heaviest evidence that we saw a better version is the fact that Marquette was the one with the first goal in Omaha, as opposed to giving up the first two markers of the game. It was a simple straight forward soccer move by Jocelyn Leigh, drawing in her defender and then taking off in the other direction to get the shooting space to beat Alyssa Zalac in the 23rd minute.
The other evidence in play is the fact that Marquette didn’t allow another run of play goal for the entire 90 minutes. Yes, it was a 1-1 draw, and that’s because of this penalty kick by Creighton’s Ariana Mondiri in the 34th minute…
