Omaha, NE – Residents across eastern Nebraska are being urged to take precautions this Saturday as weather conditions are expected to create very high to extreme fire danger.
According to the US National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, a combination of strong southerly winds, warm temperatures, and dry fields could allow fires to ignite easily and spread quickly. Forecasts call for highs between 87 and 92 degrees, with wind gusts out of the south reaching 30 to 40 mph and relative humidity dropping to 25–40 percent.
Officials warn that even though grasses remain green in many areas, crops are drying rapidly, making fields particularly vulnerable. “Any fires that do develop could spread quickly and become difficult to control,” the agency noted in its advisory…
