Omaha pizza place says they’ll stay open, continuing on after owner’s death

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A popular Omaha pizza place will continue on in the aftermath of the owner’s sudden death.

In a Facebook post Friday, Piezon’s Pizzeria notified their fans that they will remain open for the foreseeable future. The restaurant had closed last month after owner owner Matt Vrzal died at the age of 51.

Vrzal, a former Husker walk-on who played a role in Nebraska’s National Championship victories in 1994 and 1995, was also a coach and a radio host, frequently appearing on local sports shows.

“Our team is committed to carrying forward Matt’s values – excellent service and pizza made Perfect on Purpose,” Friday’s post says. “…We appreciate your patience while we figure a couple of things out. Thank you for your support.”

Piezon’s will be open for takeout only over extended lunchtime hours most days next week, and fully open on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to closing. They’re also looking for “experienced daytime servers.”…
